James C. Harrison, Jr.
ATTORNEY/SENIOR PARTNER

Jim Harrison is the founding partner of the law firm and has been a member of the Bar for over fifty years. He now limits his practice. His areas of practice have been concentrated in real property and collections litigation and real estate transactions, as well as serving as a Mediator, Arbitrator, and Special Referee in various Circuits.  He is a certified Mediator and Arbitrator, having served as a mediator in hundreds of cases. His litigation work has included property, foreclosure, and debt issues from the simple to the complex. 

 

Jim has participated as a lecturer and seminar coordinator in numerous continuing legal education programs for the South Carolina Bar, including on the subjects of foreclosure and other real estate issues.  He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Council for Conflict Resolution and served as chairman and member of the Board of Community Mediation Center.  He served on several occasions as mediator coach for the U.S. Department of Justice Dispute Resolution/Enhanced Negotiations Seminars at the National Advocacy Center.  He is a past member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the South Carolina Bar Association and has served as chairman of the Professional Education Committee of that section and on the Richland County Bar ADR Committee for the pilot program.

 

Jim received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1965 and his juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1968.  He is a member of the bars of Richland County, the State of South Carolina, the United States District Court of South Carolina, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.  He served as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Jim has also served as associate Municipal judge for the City of Columbia, as an Assistant Attorney General for South Carolina and Administrator of the South Carolina Magistrate Courts as well as having served as Deputy Public Defender for Richland County. Jim was formerly the Master-in-Equity for Richland County, a division of the Circuit Court, and has served as a special Circuit Judge. He serves on the South Carolina Bar Resolution of Fee Disputes Board and has been chair of that board for the Fifth Judicial Circuit.
